Monday Motivation - Making Your Goals Believable and Achievable

Making Your Goals Believable and Achievable

Well-planned goals can keep your life in harmony while a positive attitude
can carry you to the heights you deserve. Consider these suggestions to help
you set your goals and make them believable AND achievable!

1. Identify your goals specifically. Visualize and imagine yourself
having already achieved your goal.

2. Put a date on it. Without a deadline you really don’t have a goal.

3. Make a list of obstacles you may have to overcome in order to
achieve your goal.

4. Identify the people who can help you get to your goal.

5. Find out from those who are already where you want to be what
you will need to know or learn to get there.

6. Develop and action plan. You need a track to run on.

7. Decide “What’s in it for me?” You need to know why you want
to accomplish your goal. Decide how you will benefit from
achieving each goal and write it down. Without knowing this, you
can’t truly be sold on your goal.

8. Maintain a positive attitude. Remember, much of the way you
feel is determined by the way you decide to feel. Accept
responsibility for your own actions. Build a winning attitude by:
a. Changing the way you say “hello.” Put pep in your “hello”
and a peppier you will follow
b. Taking care of your body. Achieving goals requires
vitality.
c. Feeding your mind every day. Self-image is a determining
factor in every person’s success. Override negative input
you might receive.
d. Taking time to love. Remember, God first, family second,
career third.

Scandalous Beauty 30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 29

Day 29 – Something you could never get tired of doing.

Playing Cafe World on Facebook!!!

This is a screenshot of my cafe..."Shesayshewan Eat" Cafe..
I am absolutely addicted to this game... its the main reason why I'm online and on Facebook all the time.
You can decorate your cafe with any theme with the decorations offered... and cook a range of food from American Classics like cheeseburgers to Asian food like sushi. Its a lot of fun (for me anyway) even though some of us long time player are a little annoyed with all the challenges and game imposed forced begging (you have to ask your Cafe World neighbors to send you ingredients to make dishes or parts to build stoves, counters, etc), but we're still playing because we're hooked.

My name is Monie and I'm a Cafe World-aholic!!!

The Women (1939): Witty Lines

Scandalous Beauty 30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 28

Day 28 – Your favorite movie.

My favorite movie is The Women (1939). I stumbled on this movie one Saturday night a few years ago. I couldn't sleep and there was nothing good on TV. I've been a Rosalind Russel fan since I saw Auntie Mame and a Joan Crawford fan since forever and they're both in this movie. I also have a thing for old black and white movies with legendary actors and actresses.

This is the original Real Housewives of New York City!!!

The story-line of this all female movie is basically this. .. New York high society women who run in the same social circles, gossip about each other, go through divorces, some marry the others husbands, and in the end band together to help one ruin the home-wrecker that stole her husband and help her get her man back.

My favorite line is at the end of the movie. After getting caught cheating on her husband by the "popular girls".. Joan Crawford (Crystal Allen) turns to the group and says... "There's a name for you ladies.. but it isn't used in high society.. outside of a kennel" Hmmm.. wonder what name that is??? LOL

This is a must see if you like old black and white movies.. There was a remake made a few years ago.. but its not as good.

Scandalous Beauty 30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 27

Day 27 – A picture of you last year and now and how have you changed since then?

Then - Budakkan  July 2010

Now  - July 2011

I need to take a full length photo of myself but hopefully you can see from the pics that I've slimmed down a bit from last year.( I have a neck.. who knew???!! ..lol)   Everybody asks me how I did it and the answer is really simple... My dad does most of cooking!! LOL... My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few years ago and had to change his diet so no more red meat and fatty foods. He mostly cooks chicken and turkey, whole wheat pasta, brown rice and salads. (the whole wheat pasta and brown rice gotta go.. he can eat that.. I don't particularly care for it) Now don't think I don't have treats every once and a while, cause you all should know by now that I have a thing for cupcakes.. and me and my cousins can do some damage at BBQ's (woo chile.. dem sticky wings!!) lol. Besides the change in meals I also walk a lot. Now that's it nice out I try to "walk the boardwalk" as much as possible. I don't know how much weight I've lost because I refuse to get on a scale, but I can tell that I feel better, most of my summer clothes from last year are too big, and I have a dress that I haven't worn in years that I can once again get into... I plan on wearing it in a few weeks so maybe then I'll take that full length photo.

On a professional level, I've become more confident in my makeup skills, I'm sharing my talents more (some people had no idea that I was a makeup artist) and I've made some awesome connections. I hope to do more photo shoots in the future (my boy Kevin Barker is blowing up!!!... check out his blog Unique Visions in my "I follow them" section) and more bridal work since that's my favorite.

Only 3 more days left to this challenge.... if anyone knows of another blog challenge.. tag me.. this has been fun!!!

J. Nicole Cosmetics Launch - The Result of Faith and Hard Work

I recently had the privilege of attending the launch party for J. Nicole Cosmetics. C.E.O. Fatima Peat-Ricks has done a phenomenal job creating this line.  Here are some highlights of the event.

As you entered to room there was the full makeup line professionally displayed like in any high end store with makeup artists giving mini makeovers. The J.Nicole makeup line has everything from foundation to eye shadow palettes with shades for women of any skin tone. Products were also available for purchase.

There was a display of the J.Nicole skin care products with a team member there to answer any questions. I received a sample of the Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover. (I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but a review will be posted soon.)

Next, a display of Farmhouse Fresh products that were amazing. I highly recommend the Backcountry Caramel Body Milk Lotion, it smells good enough to eat.

For those waiting to receive their mini makeovers they could have their eyebrows threaded or receive a 5 minute massage.

To top the event off you were also given the red carpet treatment with a photographer to capture the celebration, and for a sweet treat cupcakes were made available to guests. (how did Fatima know cupcakes are my favorite and there were Red Velvet cupcakes.. yummy!!!)

The beautiful Fatima Peat-Ricks gave me a few minutes to get some background on the company and her journey....

The Company

  • J. Nicole Cosmetics is named after her daughter Jayla Nicole.
  • Wanted to create a "mobile makeup store".
  • Wanted to offer products with department store quality at an affordable price.
  • Wanted to have products for makeup artists to build their kits with.
  • Company was originally called "Brown Sugar Cosmetics" but was changed because Fatima didn't want to feel "boxed in" and wanted something for the everyday woman and women of all skin tones.

The Woman Behind J.Nicole Cosmetics and The Inspiration

  • The dream for J.Nicole Cosmetics started 5 years ago.
  • Fatima worked as a dental assistant but wanted something different for her life.
  • She is a self taught makeup artist, and currently enrolled in the esthetics program at  The Lia Schorr Institute of Cosmetic Skin Care Training.
  • One day 5 months ago while at her then job, Fatima says God told her that would be the last day she would ever do that job and she quit to pursue her dream.
  • She is grateful for the full support of her husband, family and friends.
  • Fatima says that she gives God all the glory because," without Him none of this would be possible".

The Future
  • Fatima wants to be the "Black Mary Kay" and build a team of consultants.
  • Make J. Nicole Cosmetics an international company.

It was a great launch party and thank you so much for inviting me. Congratulations and Good Luck to Fatima and the J.Nicole team!!!

* A special thanks to my cousin Lisa Bryant for coming with me and taking the pictures.*

Scandalous Beauty 30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 26

Day 26 – A photo of somewhere You've been to.

Dallas, Texas!!!
From 2004 -2008 I traveled to Dallas for business every year and by 2006 I was in love with this city and felt that I could live there one day. In 2008 I had a dental emergency and received the best medical care ever at Baylor Medical Center and that sealed the deal. I know how to get around on the train and the bus, I know how to get to the mall (Galleria), Target, Walmart and the movie theater, I have a favorite restaurant (Landry's - West End), and my house of worship will be The Potter's House (attended worship service there in 2008).

Now, I'll always be a New York girl, but after the crazy snow storms this past winter, I'm done with the snow and cold. I need to be in a snow-less environment. So as soon as financially possible... DALLAS HERE I COME!!!

THE STARS AT NIGHT ARE  BIG AND BRIGHT.... (CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP).... DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS!!!

Me and my cousin Sophia poolside at my cousin Jonathan's home in Arlington, Texas.

Scandalous Beauty 30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 22

Day 22 – A letter to someone who has hurt you recently. A letter to someone who broke my heart.

Dear J,

I thought that we would've been friends for the rest of our lives, but I guess I was wrong. I've been contacting you to see if you can fit me into your busy schedule because I have so much to get off my chest. In the 10 plus years that you've been in my life we've been through so much. I was by your side through one of your worst moments.. stayed up with you all night , listening to you, talking to you, even when your then girlfriend was nowhere to be found. I realized that we're not getting any younger and I finally wanted to tell you how I really feel about you. When I asked you a few months ago to have a drink, hang out, whatever...  I wanted to use that time to lay all my cards on the table and if you rejected me then so be it, but at least you'd know where I stand. So you said that your schedule was sooo busy and you didn't know when you'd have time to hang out and I was ok with that.. I've gotten used to your erratic law enforcement schedule. But when I see some chick write on your Facebook wall "Thanks babe for a great weekend in Atlantic City".. I was like huh?? and then I see you change your relationship status from single to in a relationship (with this chick) I was fuming!!! I've always been there for you (over 10 years!!!!)  and you give me some bullshit excuse about your works schedule so you can't find a few hours to spend with your friend.. but you can find a whole frigging weekend to spend with this blonde!!! Are you kidding me???? I've stood by and watched you get dogged by girlfriend after girlfriend and said nothing. It wasn't that long ago that you asked on Facebook "where were all the good women??". I'm like WTF?? .. do I have to stand outside your house naked with a neon sign for you to notice me??? I think I've proven to you that I'm a good women (not that I have to)  but I guess you don't see it. Its sad that our friendship had to end because of this,I just can't stand by and watch yet another girl come into your life and hurt you.  I always thought that somehow we'd end up together but I guess not. There will always be a place in my heart for you. I love you.

Scandalous Beauty 30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 15

Day 15 – Something you don’t leave the house without.

The story of me and my Ipod...

When Ipods first came out I really didn't see what the big deal was. I was happy with my CD player and wasn't into gadgets. When I finally saw what you could have on an Ipod, I had to have one. That year my dad asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I said that I wanted an Ipod shuffle. (that was a shocker because he never asked before and always gave me something that wasn't me at all.. I'm not ungrateful but all he had to do was ask). On Christmas Eve I started downloading music preparing for my Ipod. Christmas morning we opened our gifts and there was no Ipod. My dad usually gives his gift last  so when he went back upstairs I just knew he was coming back with my Ipod. But no.. He took a shower and then went off to watch football. I wasn't upset, I just thought that since my dad waits until the last minute to do everything that maybe he would get our gifts after Christmas. A few days later he asked me which Ipod I wanted. I went to work and came home expecting to find the apple box.. but there was no box. I asked what happened to the Ipod, and my dad informed me that it was too expensive. WHAT!!!!  Then I found out that he let the "sales mobsters" at Best Buy "beat him in the head" about adding insurance and a warranty to the Ipod and that put my Christmas gift out of the budget. Needless
to say I was fuming mad, but determined to get my Ipod.

When I got my income tax refund I bought my own Ipod!! Not only did I get it myself, I got the Ipod Classic and I got it engraved with my name on it. The price I paid for that Ipod was the price that the "sales mobsters" wanted my dad to pay for a shuffle!!! I came home that day and showed my dad, but in his usual way all he said was "oh, very good".

From that point on me and my Ipod have been inseparable. I have all of my favorite music, videos, tv show
episodes, and podcasts at my fingertips at all times. I love my Ipod. :)

July Exclusive: New Teenage Dream Limited-Edition Lip Gloss Set Celebrates Miss Teen USA

Scandalous Beauty 30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 14

Day 14 – A TV show you’re currently addicted to.

THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY!!!

In the words of my girl Teresa Guidice I "love love love" this show!!!
As you can tell Teresa is my favorite. She sealed the deal to make her my favorite when she flipped that table in season 1("you prostitution whore"!!!) and her going after Danielle last season ("Is bitch better") was the icing on the cake!! This season I can tell that all the stress of her family's financial problems being made public is really getting to her, but she's tough so I think she'll be just fine because she's "from Patterson don't forget that."

Caroline Manzo is my 2nd favorite.
I love her for her wisdom and her strong family loyalty. She's a "hard as balls" kinda woman. She takes no mess from anybody. But turns into a bowl of mush when it comes to her love for her family.

Jacqueline Laurita comes in 3rd.
I wasn't too sure about her in season 1, I thought she was a little ditsy and too trusting, but she's coming around. And I'm sure you'll all agree with me when I say that her daughter Ashley needs a "come to Jesus", because she's seriously rude, disrespectful and out of line (just saying)

The 2 new "Housewives" in season 3 are Melissa Gorga (Teresa's sister-in-law) and Kathy" Wakile (Teresa's cousin). The jury is still out on these two; however, from the few shows of the new season so far  I don't see Kathy coming back because her storyline is boring. As far as Melissa, I just don't like her. Why? Sorry I can't like anyone that can't sing "Amazing Grace" properly. ("Amazing grace...how sweet the sound.. that saved a WENCH like me.") Really Melissa "wench like me"????  If you want to be a singer you have to know the lyrics.

So this is the show that I'm currently addicted to. Its a great "table flippin" ,"hair extension pullin" time.
Thank you BRAVO!!!!

NYX Harry Potter Contest

Scandalous Beauty 30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 13

Day 13 – Your favorite musician and why?

Just like day 6 I can't pick just one....

Prince
Who doesn't love Prince Rogers Nelson? I've been a Prince fan for a long as I can remember. My most vivid memory of Prince is the movie Purple Rain. Ironically it was playing on cable last night and I just started laughing because I can remember watching it back in the day with my mother and brother and when the "dirty" scenes came up my mother hit the fast forward button. (It was the 80's and we were watching a VHS)
I can also remember that Prince's music got me through being punished when I was little. Whenever I was sent to my room (for whatever reason) I would sneak out and take my mother's "45" records (OK I'm showing my age) and play them on my little record player.. the song I played the most was "I Wanna Be Your Lover". At that age I had no idea who Prince was, but I've been in love with his music ever since. Whether it was on a CD or on my Ipod I always have my top fav Prince songs at my fingertips. "Adore" is some serious "baby-making" music (oh... I don't have kids.. but hey..lol) and my email is the title of a Prince song (you have to really be a fan to know that song..lol). Finally. Prince likes purple and so do I. Purple is the color of royalty and suits him perfectly.

Richie Sambora
My celebrity crush since I was 12. I was introduced to the band Bon Jovi at that age and I loved the music. When I saw my first Bon Jovi video.. I was like "who is that guy playing the guitar"? And so began my love of Mr. Sambora "The King of Swing".
My room was covered with his pictures from magazines and posters. I even went so far as to tell my friends that he was my boyfriend. (how gullible were they to think that a 12 yr old was dating a 28 yr old.. in the words of Ed Lover "C'MON SON"..LOL) Richie is an awesome guitarist and sexy as all hell. They say that the faces that guitar players make while playing are the same face they make when they're... ya know (*wink*) And Richie does this "pouty lip" thing when he's playing that gives me goosebumps.

When Bon Jovi took a break in the 90's for the guys to work on solo projects I couldn't wait to hear Richie's work. I could catch a little of his voice on Bon Jovi songs but I wanted to hear him sing a whole song. (I love Jon too,but there's just something so soulful and soothing about Richie's voice) When "Stranger In This Town" came out I was in High School and I rushed out to Sam Goody  to get it. (what ya'll know 'bout Sam Goody) I listened to it sooo much and I picked a favorite song. "One Light Burning" brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. (Side Note) I had a hard time dealing with the death of my grandmother in 1988 and this song helped me feel better even though it came out years after her death) This songs reminds me that my grandmother will always be in my heart.

Somewhere in my life
There's one light burning
I feel it like my heart beating inside
Somewhere in my life
There's one light burning

My love for my grandmother and Richie will always be connected not just because of this song, but because my grandmother passed away on July 11 which is also Richie's birthday.

Scandalous Beauty 30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 11

Day 11 – What’s in your makeup bag?

Well.. I don't carry a makeup bag... OMG.. "Clutch the MAC Lip Glass!!!" I keep my personal makeup in a cute purple train case. The makeup that I carry is whatever I'm using on a particular day.

Today I'm carrying my pink House of Dereon purse. The makeup I have today is very simple.. A Mary Kay Compact with my pressed powder and a Mary Kay Lip Gloss in Sugarberry. (I used to be a MK Consultant and I'll use the products that I have until they run out..lol)

So I guess that's all that's in my "makeup bag".

Until Tomorrow...
